A Large-Scale Explorer Board Display Designed in CAD

At a busy technical conference, a product has a few seconds to catch someone's eye. For Adiuvo Engineering & Training, the answer was to make its newest FPGA board impossible to miss: a large-scale replica of the Explorer Board, designed in CAD and 3D printed in full colour.

The brief: a display to promote the Explorer Board

Adiuvo commissioned us to create a promotional display for the Explorer Board, its AMD-based FPGA board, promoted under the tagline "No HDI, No Microvias, No Compromise" at explorerboard.tech. The display needed to show the board's real layout at a scale people could see from across a room, ready to take centre stage at FPGA Horizons London 26. A poster or a screen can describe a board, but a replica people can stand next to shows it.

Designing the display in Onshape CAD

We modelled the display in Onshape CAD. The board was split into four sections, so each piece could be printed accurately and then joined, and the CAD model carried across the details of the real board, from the connectors and chips to the buttons. A separate stand was modelled to hold the board at a display angle, with ADIUVO ENGINEERING and EXPLORER modelled directly into its legs, so the branding is part of the structure rather than added afterwards. Working from an accurate digital model meant the proportions and details could be checked on screen before any printing began.

3D printing in multiple colours

Each section was 3D printed on a Bambu Lab printer in multiple colours: a black base, a blue board surface and dark grey and light grey components. Printing in colour meant the connectors, chips and buttons came off the printer in the colours of the real board. Printing the full display took four to five days.

Assembly: joining the sections with pins

Once printed, the four sections were joined with pins, which keep them aligned so the finished board reads as a single piece. The board was then mounted on its stand. The finished display stands around 60cm tall.

The result: a centrepiece at FPGA Horizons London 26

The display was used at FPGA Horizons London 26, held on 6 and 7 October 2026 at the Pullman London St Pancras. The event brought together 450 attendees, 23 talks and workshops and 45 exhibiting partners. The Explorer Board display was shown in the Explorer Zone room, where its size made the board easy to spot and easy to talk about.

We were also at the event ourselves as a Supporting Partner and exhibitor. Our stand featured a smaller Explorer Board replica, an Explorer Board mascot figure and Explorer Board mugs, alongside our CAD, product design and branded merchandise services.

Client feedback from Adiuvo Engineering & Training

"We wanted something that would stop people in their tracks at FPGA Horizons London 26, and Logical Branding delivered exactly that. They turned our Explorer Board design files into a 60cm display that kept every detail of the real board, from the connectors to the buttons.

It became a talking point throughout the event and drew engineers straight to the Explorer Zone. The team were brilliant to work with from CAD to the finished piece."

Large-scale displays and models designed in CAD

A large-scale model turns a product that fits in the palm of a hand into something an audience can see, walk around and talk about. From CAD modelling to multi-colour 3D printing and assembly, we create display pieces and prototypes that help products stand out at events, in showrooms and in the office.
